Here is a small little incident that I’d like to share with you.

It was interesting because I was new in practice. I was consulting this very beautiful patient who was looking for some body contouring, as she was not so happy with the way her abdomen looked. She also had some diabetes, and couldn’t get pregnant. After years of trying, she gave up altogether, having tried several options to get pregnant.

She came in to see me initially for a tummy tuck. Well, after an examination I didn’t think that she was a good candidate for a tummy tuck at that time, and perhaps liposuction would help her improve her body contour. So after a lengthy discussion, we decided that we should proceed with the liposuction. I think I did very well, the surgery was quite successful in my opinion, but she was… I will put it this way: she paid quite a bit of attention to detail.

There was a small area around the belly button that she wasn’t very happy with and wanted me to redo with a touch of liposuction. I kept advising her that she should probably wait for at least 6 months before I should do anything, because that’s the time needed for the swelling to subside. She insisted that she have a small touchup down the road.

So anyway, after 6 months I did a small touch of liposuction in my office. Well, being the person she was, she still wasn’t very excited about that small area and wanted me to do yet another touch up. Well I wasn’t very thrilled about it, but I did decide to proceed with it and scheduled her for a little more liposuction.

But the day of surgery she didn’t show up. I was very, very surprised. I thought, “Oh no, she must be very unhappy and upset with me.” But still I wanted to talk to her to see what was the reason. So anyway I called her up and she was so excited and happy and she says “Doctor thank you.” And I said to myself “Why is she thanking me?” I had been expecting an unhappy patient, who wanted even more liposuction done.

She told me that she hadn’t been feeling well, so she went to the doctor and her pregnancy test had come back positive! Oh. Well you know, she’s been trying for years, and here it was; after my little bit of liposuction, she got pregnant. Anyway, that little issue never bothered her again because she was just so happy to be a mother.
